Auschwitz-Birkenau is the memorial and museum at the site of the former German Nazi concentration and extermination camp, located near Oświęcim in southern Poland. The State Museum of Auschwitz-Birkenau, established in 1947, preserves the post-camp relics and runs an archival, conservation, research and publishing centre.
