The Royal Palace of Madrid (Palacio Real de Madrid) is the official residence of the Spanish Royal Family and one of the largest and best-preserved royal palaces in Europe, with more than 135,000 square metres of history. It stands on the site of the old medieval Alcázar, rebuilt from 1738 onwards and still used today by Their Majesties the Kings of Spain for official acts.
