Puerta de Alcalá is a monumental neoclassical gate located in the centre of the Plaza de la Independencia in Madrid, Spain, at the intersection of Calle de Alcalá, Alfonso XII, Serrano and Salustiano Olózaga streets, close to the gates of the Retiro park and the Fuente de Cibeles. It was built between 1769 and 1778 by order of King Carlos III, designed by the Italian architect Francesco Sabatini, and took over from an earlier gate on the road to Alcalá de Henares.
